Executing a calf slicer from the Deep X position begins with standing up and hooking the opponent's leg. Lift the opponent's leg while protecting your head and slide your right leg underneath theirs. This movement will help to drive their leg slightly to the side.

  1. Close a triangle with your legs to secure the position, maintaining a hold on the opponent's leg.
  2. You can switch your right hand to the opponent's belt to bring them down or continue holding the leg.
  3. Drive your knee and ankle down towards the mat to apply the calf slicer submission.
  4. Keep the opponent's hips down by either holding the belt or grabbing their knee.
  5. Bring the opponent towards the ground and towards your chest, then open your legs to finish the submission with the calf slicer.

Another variation involves entering the lasso guard, standing up the leg, and inserting your leg to hook the opponent. Control the leg, lift, and trap the opponent's foot with your right leg. Lock the triangle, drive your knee to the side, bring the opponent down, and apply pressure with your knee and ankle towards the mat to secure the tap.
