About this video
Attacking the triangle from spider guard:
- Start from a standing position, although this can also be practiced with a partner on their knees or one knee.
- Move side to side for control, looking for an opportunity to take one foot off the bicep while pulling a hand through to the middle.
- Place the other foot on the opponent's hip, using both the bicep and hip as a base to pull down and lift the hips up, initiating the triangle attack.
- Keep the foot on the bicep to weigh down and break the opponent's posture while lifting the hips.
- Pass the opponent's arm across and either lock a diamond or proceed directly to a fully locked triangle.
- From the diamond position, work to lock up the triangle using basic adjustments or any other known adjustments:
- Lift the hips and pull the arm across.
- Pull the opponent back in, grab the shin, step on the hip, pivot, and remove any slack.
- Lock the full triangle, secure the head, squeeze the knees, and lift the hips to finish.
- In spider guard, take one foot off the bicep and pull the hand through to the middle, usually with the retracted leg.
- Step on the hip, bridge the hips up, and shoot the triangle.
