About this video
Executing a basic sweep from standard ashi:
- Initiate a forward off balance by pushing and rotating your opponent. As they recover, use your knees to direct them in the opposite direction.
- To enhance the sweep, grab the second leg. In gi, grip the pants; in no-gi, grab the outside of the knee. Collecting both legs facilitates the sweep.
- Perform the forward off balance, then lift the hips, turn the knees out, and collect the second leg to knock your opponent over.
- To finish the sweep, make a cross grip on their pants to prevent them from standing up and to aid your own rise.
- Post your hand behind you, plant your foot, and execute a technical stand. Ensure you maintain your grip on their leg to prevent them from performing a technical stand up.
