About this video
Retaining the collar and sleeve guard involves three main movements to counter the top person's actions:
- Side-to-Side Movement:
- Maintain a strong pull with your grips and a strong push with your feet.
- Keep your spine slightly rounded.
- Lift your hips slightly to create proper tension. This makes it harder for the opponent to disconnect your feet and pass your guard.
- Practice by moving three steps to one side and three steps to the other, switching top to bottom after several repetitions.
- Preventing Pull Off:
- If the opponent tries to pull you off your back, keep your hips lifted slightly.
- This forces the opponent to drag you, making it more difficult for them to disconnect your feet and pass your guard.
- Preventing Stack:
- If the opponent attempts to stack you by grabbing your waistband or belt, press your butt down to the mat.
- Flatten your spine and keep your head on the mat to prevent being lifted onto your neck.
- Be aware that the opponent may switch tactics, so be ready to adjust your posture dynamically.
