About this video

1970s Disco Sweep from De La Riva guard:

  1. Switch from a collar grip to a sleeve grip on your opponent.
  2. If your opponent is grabbing your pants, break the grip by kicking your foot free and placing it on the inside of their thigh.
  3. Extend your leg to stretch your opponent out while pulling their sleeve and lifting their heel off the mat.
  4. As you extend your leg, sit up simultaneously to use the momentum for the sweep.
  5. Continue pulling the sleeve and maintaining your De La Riva hook to turn your opponent and knock them to their butt.
  6. Hold onto the grips, post your back leg, and come up to control their hips, potentially transitioning to a guard pass or back take.
