About this video
Connecting to spider guard from collar sleeve:
- Start from a standing position and perform the same guard pull used for collar and sleeve.
- Choose to step to the hip or the bicep. Begin with the hip and transition to the bicep.
- Release the collar grip and grab the opponent's sleeve, especially if they are grabbing your pants. Use this to bring their grip closer and establish a spider guard grip by rolling your four fingers into the cuff, keeping the thumb on the outside for IBJJF competition.
- Insert your foot into the opponent's bicep. Extend the leg and bring your knee in, widening it at the pit of their elbow before placing your foot there.
- Mold your foot to their bicep, ensuring a secure connection.
- Practice moving around to get comfortable with the position.
- Extend to one side or the other while maintaining strong grips and pressing your feet against their biceps.
- Keep a slightly rounded spine to facilitate movement while on your back.
