About this video
Executing the Baby Bolo from De La Riva:
- Start in De La Riva guard with collar and ankle grips.
- Off-balance your opponent by placing your right foot's toes in their belly and extending both legs towards their backside while pulling both grips. This will make your opponent take a step back.
- Reach for the waistband or belly of your opponent with your hand.
- Step on the mat with your right foot (the one that was on their belly) and use it to scoot your hips further behind, reaching your hook for their far thigh.
- Grab your opponent's far leg and pummel your second hook behind the bend of their knee. If needed, scoot further to place the second hook.
- Square your hips with your opponent's, load their hips onto your shins, and extend your shins outward at their knees.
- Squeeze your knees on their hips, make them sit, secure a seatbelt grip, and work for both hooks.
Key points to remember:
- Preference for gripping the waistband over the belt as it is more secure.
- Ensure both grips prevent your opponent from stepping around and facing you.
- Adjust your position as needed to secure hooks and maintain control.
