About this video
Guard retention from spider guard involves three main drills:
-
Opponent moving side to side:
- Extend one leg while retracting the other to keep the opponent at a distance.
- Lift hips and scoot them out to an angle as the opponent switches sides.
- Maintain sticky feet and follow the opponent's movements to keep control.
-
Opponent throwing legs to the side:
- Keep one foot sticky on the opponent's bicep and place the other foot on the same bicep.
- Lift hips and replace the foot to its original position while extending the other leg.
- Repeat the process as the opponent attempts to throw the legs to either side.
-
Opponent stacking:
- Press lower back and head to the mat to avoid being rolled into a stack position.
- Maintain this position to become like a human sled, making it difficult for the opponent to lift or roll you.
- Avoid lifting the head or butt off the mat to prevent the opponent from leg dragging or taking the back.
