About this video
Applying the Jedi Mind Trick to counter a Knee Cut Pass:
- Monitor the opponent's arms to prevent them from gaining control of your upper body or securing deep grips.
- As the opponent begins the knee cut, sneak in an underhook on their far side, keeping it low to avoid exposure to a Darce choke.
- Escape to the inside of the opponent's arm and grip their knee, using this grip to pull their hip forward onto you.
- Reach around the opponent's hip to secure a grip, while ensuring your connection to the guard is maintained.
- Move your shoulder away to gain inside space and tuck your elbow inside, even if you lose control of their ankle.
- Push with your forearm and pull on the hip to lift the opponent's hip off the mat.
- For a back take variation, pull the opponent's hip more flat onto you, but maintain the current position for this demonstration.
- Prevent the opponent from controlling your upper body by digging a low underhook and cementing your elbow to your hip.
- Flip your grip to the outside of their hip, swing to the inside of their arm, and tip them forward using your outside leg if necessary.
- Hug the opponent's hip and hide your forearm inside their knee, switching the hook as needed.
- If you have less leg to work with, hip escape to adjust and push the opponent's knee open if it collapses.
- Win the inside space by shrugging your shoulder back and tucking your forearm inside.
- Even if you lose the opponent's leg, you can still tip them over using the two points of control on their hip and knee.
