About this video
Executing the Jedi Mind Trick when being flattened or choosing to engage:
- Maintain an underhook to control the opponent's hip and prevent them from getting their hip to the far side.
- Use the bottom leg to hook behind the opponent's knee while the bottom arm grabs the back of their gi.
- Extend the hooked leg to off-balance the opponent, secure a seat belt grip, and establish back control with hooks.
- Alternatively, create a twister hook by sliding the foot to the opponent's ankle and bending their leg with heel pressure on the inside of their knee.
- Once the hook is set, switch the hook from the ankle to behind the opponent's opposite knee.
- Extend away from the opponent, secure a seat belt grip, and set the second hook to take the back.
- This technique can be used reactively when losing control of the opponent's hip or proactively if the crab ride or berimbolo game is more familiar.
- Allow the opponent to back step, then manipulate their leg to create hooks and transition to back control.
