About this video

Executing a bridge sweep from half guard when the opponent has passed the knee line and secured an underhook:

  1. Prevent the situation from worsening by keeping the opponent from advancing further and flattening your shoulders.
  2. Close your armpit and, if possible, grip near the opponent's belly on the underside of their body, keeping your elbow down.
  3. Switch your hook by taking your inside leg out and use it to pull yourself underneath the opponent.
  4. If the opponent's arm is over, use it for a slight elevation. If the arm is out, drop your forearm to their hip, being careful not to post your hand underneath in case they switch hips.
  5. Align your hips with the opponent's, close your knees, and execute a bridge to take them over.
  6. Switch to an underhook and secure control to hold the opponent down after completing the sweep.
  7. Remember that after a successful half guard sweep, you typically land in a strong position to pass because you end up in the opponent's half guard.
