About this video
Executing a bridge sweep from half guard when the opponent has passed the knee line and secured an underhook:
- Prevent the situation from worsening by keeping the opponent from advancing further and flattening your shoulders.
- Close your armpit and, if possible, grip near the opponent's belly on the underside of their body, keeping your elbow down.
- Switch your hook by taking your inside leg out and use it to pull yourself underneath the opponent.
- If the opponent's arm is over, use it for a slight elevation. If the arm is out, drop your forearm to their hip, being careful not to post your hand underneath in case they switch hips.
- Align your hips with the opponent's, close your knees, and execute a bridge to take them over.
- Switch to an underhook and secure control to hold the opponent down after completing the sweep.
- Remember that after a successful half guard sweep, you typically land in a strong position to pass because you end up in the opponent's half guard.
