About this video
Entering the position from an underhook in half guard, aim to have your shoulders parallel to your opponent's, creating a Greco-Roman Half Guard scenario. Secure the underhook and immediately reach high to clinch with precision:
- The inside arm should be palm down, forearm inside the opponent's shoulder line to catch their weight.
- Keep your outside shoulder high to eliminate the opponent's post on the mat, opening up various sweep options.
- If the opponent applies pressure, use leg work to twist and sweep.
- Should the opponent's weight shift away, switch the hook, bridge, and scoop underneath, loading their hip for a sweep.
- If the opponent attempts to back out, insert butterfly hooks, kick straight to sweep, and shift your hip to lift and control the top position with the underhook.
Always secure the underhook when coming up to maintain control and prevent the opponent from escaping.
