About this video

Transitioning from a De La Riva guard with a deep underhook, when the opponent backsteps, switch the hook to follow and keep their hip elevated. If unable to come on top, extend the leg to push on the opponent's arm. As the opponent falls back, wrap their leg to prepare for a leg attack.

  1. While maintaining the underhook and the opponent backsteps, switch the hook to keep up with their movement.
  2. Attempt to work up to a top position, but if blocked, use the leg to push against the opponent's arm.
  3. When the opponent falls back, immediately wrap their leg to secure a position for a leg attack.
  4. Use the control of the footlock as an opportunity to perform a technical stand-up and transition into a leg drag.
  5. Even if the footlock does not have a strong finishing position, maintain control of the foot to prevent the bottom leg from touching the mat, facilitating a guard pass.
  6. After the opponent backsteps and stays connected, come up to the forearm for better leverage.
  7. Free the bottom leg, push, and attach to the opponent's leg to lock in the footlock position.
  8. Choose to either continue attacking the foot or rotate face up to initiate a leg drag sequence.

This approach offers a dual threat of a leg attack and a guard pass, using the footlock control to dictate the flow of the engagement.
