About this video
Transitioning from K guard to X-Guard, explore a sweep using a scorpion or lockdown from the X-Guard position. This technique is effective even if you don't typically use lockdown or scorpion from half guard.
- Start in K guard and transition to X-Guard, creating off-balances to force the opponent's hands to the floor.
- Push with both legs to create space for your leg to wrap around for the scorpion hook as the opponent pressures back towards you.
- Wrap your leg around the opponent's leg, stomping on their ankle with one foot and placing your heel to the floor with the other, trapping their foot.
- Apply weight down on the opponent's knee by aligning your knee with your heel, making it difficult for them to step up.
- Lace your laces through to secure the lockdown or scorpion hook, and lock your hands above their knee.
- Extend your legs out at an angle, not just straight, to create pressure on the opponent's hip and facilitate the sweep.
- As you come up, you may end up in an over-under position. From here, you can pummel your legs free and take top position.
- If the opponent attempts to pass their leg across and hunt for an underhook during the transition, win the underhook battle and lock up to control their legs.
- Elevate their legs to complete the sweep and establish top position, maintaining control of both legs throughout the sweep.
This sweep offers a strong option from the X-Guard after establishing K guard, allowing for top control with both legs secured.
