About this video

Addressing the situation where an opponent sprawls to defend against an attack from the K-Guard position, the following technique is employed:

  1. Recognize that the opponent's sprawl exposes their other leg, providing an opportunity to attack.
  2. Pummel the attacking leg across to the outside hip, ensuring it crosses the center line to maintain guard.
  3. Create frames or collar ties to manage distance and control the opponent's movement.
  4. Grab a shallow grip inside the opponent's knee with one hand while the foot travels across to set up the attack.
  5. Shoot the knee through to enter a seated Ashi Garami position, keeping the elbow tight for control.
  6. Look for false reap grips or second leg control to secure the position and prevent the opponent's escape.
  7. If the opponent attempts to backstep, follow through to transition into a cross Ashi position.
  8. From the cross Ashi, seek heel exposure or second leg control to continue the attack sequence.
  9. Lock a triangle when possible to sit the opponent down, using the elbow inside the knee to open and off-balance them.
  10. Follow the opponent's movements and adjust to maintain control, always aiming for second leg control to finish the attack.

This technique offers a strategic response to an opponent's sprawl, allowing for a transition to a seated Ashi Garami and potential leg entanglements.
