About this video

Establishing the K-guard from a supine position involves several key steps:

  1. When forced to the back and facing knee and hip passing, look to pummel the foot in. However, if this is difficult, avoid high legging unless you have inside position and good frames.
  2. If the opponent keeps their head low and controls your leg, clear their grip by bringing your knee to your chest and clearing at the knee.
  3. Once the grip is stripped, use the opportunity to place your foot on their hip and establish the K-hook.
  4. As the opponent circles towards your head, they walk into your K-guard, allowing you to make a connection with your hands.
  5. Ensure you have a tight structure with knee and elbow connection, resembling a side guard position.
  6. As the opponent continues to circle, it becomes easier to establish an underhook or scoop grip, knee and elbow connection, and lock in the hands for a strong K-guard position.

Remember to maintain frames to prevent your hips from turning and to strip grips effectively by bringing your knee to your chest. The circling motion of your opponent will facilitate the entry into the K-guard.
