About this video
Transitioning from outside Ashi Garami to cross Ashi when the opponent hides their heel:
- Maintain ankle lock control when the opponent crowds you, making it difficult to secure the ankle lock.
- Initiate a leg spin by retracting your knee while keeping the ankle lock grip.
- Turn to your knees without releasing the ankle lock grip and put your weight back in.
- Drop your knee to the floor and push off with your foot to slide your other knee underneath, still holding the ankle lock grip.
- Transition to cross Ashi by ensuring your knee gets through and look for second leg control.
- Attempt to sit with double leg control, establishing a strong position in cross Ashi.
- If your hips are too crowded to expose the heel, open your legs, spin, and maintain the ankle lock control.
- Turn to your knee, pop the other knee through, and control the second leg.
- Once in cross Ashi with double leg control, you're in a favorable position to continue your attack.
- This leg spin to cross Ashi is a powerful option when you're stuck in outside Ashi and the opponent is pressuring to take your back.
