About this video
Transitioning to K guard from closed guard involves using the threat of an upper body attack to set up a scoop grip on the leg. To achieve this, control the opponent's opposite arm by the elbow and punch underneath with the other hand to force their hand to the floor over your shoulder. Simultaneously, bring your knees to your chest to break their posture.
- Control the opponent's elbow and punch underneath their wrist with your other hand.
- Bring your knees to your chest to force their hand over your shoulder, establishing a shoulder crunch.
- Maintain the shoulder crunch to control posture, then transition to a scoop grip on the leg as the opponent reacts.
- Ensure your knee is inside and pointing downward between the opponent's legs, with your elbow inside your knee for strong control.
- If the opponent tries to pull away or step up a leg, use their movement to secure the scoop grip.
- When the opponent pressures forward and locks their hands, cut an angle and transition to a shallow scoop grip.
- Open your leg wide, bring your knee in front of their shoulder to threaten an arm lock, and use their reaction to finalize the K guard entry.
These techniques create a dynamic interplay between attacking the upper body and transitioning to lower body control, allowing for effective posture breaking and guard transitions.
