About this video

Establishing a connection from Reverse De La Riva, a bicep lasso is used to transition into a scoop grip. This sets up the K guard, which is effective against opponents using outside movement. The bicep lasso helps maintain connection, allowing for a scoop grip on the far leg and potential transitions to outside Ashi Garami or X guard.

  1. Pummel inside against an opponent's grip on the hip, then reach through with a bicep lasso to establish connection.
  2. Transition the left hand to a scoop grip on the opponent's far leg.
  3. Invert and use the left foot to create space, threading it through to establish K guard.
  4. Switch scoop grips between sides to look for K guard entries on either leg, especially when attacking from outside Ashi Garami or X guard.
  5. When passing the K guard across, initially look for a back take. If the angle isn't right, switch to a lockdown or Y guard position to chase the back or enter reverse X.
  6. Use crab guard hooks to secure the back position.
  7. When the opponent back steps or rolls through, immediately look for outside Ashi Garami to secure a better position.
  8. Prevent the opponent from pressuring their knee down by configuring the outside leg to push on their hip.
  9. Transition to a waiter's guard position to chase the back more effectively, using a one-on-one grip to prevent the opponent from turning away.

These techniques demonstrate the fluidity of transitions between grips and positions, emphasizing the importance of connection and control to secure advantageous positions such as K guard and the back.
