About this video
Transitioning to K-guard involves establishing control through a crab guard position. Begin by forcing the opponent onto both knees, either from a knee shield or by directly forcing them down.
- Control the opponent's arm to prevent them from countering the transition.
- From the knee shield, open up space to insert the heel inside, sacrificing some of the knee shield's protection.
- Once the heel is inside, cross your feet to establish the crab guard, facing the direction where the opponent's pressure is coming from.
- Maintain a two-on-one grip on the opponent's arm to control their movement and set up the K-guard entry.
- Create an angle by turning your body, which allows the outside foot to come into play and seek a scoop grip on the opponent's leg.
- Switch hands to secure a strong scoop grip, opening up the opponent's defense.
- As the opponent pressures forward, bring the foot up towards their hip to solidify the K-guard position.
- Focus on the angle created during the transition, as it's crucial for a successful K-guard entry.
- Once in K-guard, the elbow should be inside the knee, ready to work for attacks.
Remember, winning the hand position and creating the right angle are key to transitioning into K-guard from the crab guard.
