About this video
Combining outside passing with a tight pressure folding pass involves using a throw-by pass, also known as a short drag or Torreando pass, to pummel the opponent's legs and secure a dominant position.
- Start by gripping the cuff of the opponent's pants and take a 45-degree shuffle step out.
- Use the power of your hips and an uppercut motion to throw their leg across.
- If the opponent places a foot on your shoulder, use your free hand to press on their shin, release the pants grip, and perform a "wax off" motion with your pinky leading to guide both shins down.
- Drop your knee to the mat, initiating a hip switch and shoulder roll, landing with your hip and shoulder heavy on the opponent to prevent them from framing and bucking.
- Drive off your toes to maintain pressure and control. You can then step over to secure the arm, place your head close to their ear, staple their leg, and complete the pass.
- When executing the throw-by, keep your elbow tight to your body, and after the "wax off" motion, drop into the position with your hip and shoulder heavy on the opponent.
- If the opponent tries to hip escape, follow with small choppy steps, maintaining pressure, and then secure the pass with a knee hug and pummel.
It's important to land with the side of your body heavy on the opponent rather than square, to avoid them regaining guard. Let them carry your weight before completing the pass.
