About this video

Securing back control after executing a folding pass involves a series of steps to prevent the opponent from turning into you and to establish a dominant position.

  1. After passing to the back side, immediately clamp your elbows together to prevent the opponent from turning into you.
  2. Advance your controls by making a four-finger grip in the back of the collar with the near side underhook, also known as a horse collar grip.
  3. Encourage the opponent to look away by circling around and shrugging them forward, causing their right arm to move towards the mat.
  4. Drive off your toes, roll with your chest, and flare your elbow to make the opponent post their hand on the mat.
  5. Connect with a seatbelt grip or a Kimura seatbelt, depending on your preference.
  6. Slide your knee tight to the opponent's back and place your knee on their hip to prepare for hook insertion.
  7. If the opponent continues to turtle, slide the bottom hook in easily.
  8. If the opponent does not turtle, execute a chair sit back take to secure the back position.
  9. Once in position, you can proceed to finish with your chosen technique.
