About this video
Securing back control after executing a folding pass involves a series of steps to prevent the opponent from turning into you and to establish a dominant position.
- After passing to the back side, immediately clamp your elbows together to prevent the opponent from turning into you.
- Advance your controls by making a four-finger grip in the back of the collar with the near side underhook, also known as a horse collar grip.
- Encourage the opponent to look away by circling around and shrugging them forward, causing their right arm to move towards the mat.
- Drive off your toes, roll with your chest, and flare your elbow to make the opponent post their hand on the mat.
- Connect with a seatbelt grip or a Kimura seatbelt, depending on your preference.
- Slide your knee tight to the opponent's back and place your knee on their hip to prepare for hook insertion.
- If the opponent continues to turtle, slide the bottom hook in easily.
- If the opponent does not turtle, execute a chair sit back take to secure the back position.
- Once in position, you can proceed to finish with your chosen technique.
