About this video

Setting up the Folding Pass from half guard without the opponent's knee shield involves several key steps:

  1. Gain control over the opponent's hips, especially after clearing the knee shield.
  2. Anticipate the opponent's attempt to block your far arm from creating a cross face, using one or both hands.
  3. While the opponent frames on your shoulder, grip their pants near the knee. This can be done with a full grip or a cuff, but a full grip is preferred.
  4. Lean your weight into your shoulder and ensure your knee is in front of the opponent's knee. If your knee is behind, the technique will not work.
  5. Tripod your legs up, pinch your knees together, and rotate the opponent's hips by clocking around.
  6. Transition your backside hand to the opponent's belt, switch the direction of your head to the outside of their arm, and step around to complete the forward pass.
  7. If the opponent attempts to hip escape, follow their movement, switch your head to the other side, and walk around to maintain control.
  8. In case your hand gets trapped underneath the opponent, you can transition to a body lock, staple their leg, and pass.
  9. Keep your elbow tight to your hip when gripping the pants to prevent the opponent from establishing a Kimura grip or an underhook.
  10. If you're able to free your hand, you can also remove it and continue with the pass.

Throughout the technique, maintaining tight control and anticipating the opponent's movements are crucial for successfully executing the Folding Pass.
