About this video

Executing the folding pass from the Shin Slice position involves a series of movements designed to prevent entanglement and bypass the opponent's guard. The technique unfolds as follows:

  1. Start by making a pant grip and lifting to lower the opponent's opposite hip to the mat, which facilitates guiding their leg parallel to the mat.
  2. Pin the opponent's knee down, keeping their leg parallel, then pivot on the heel, turning the foot and knee.
  3. Execute a penetration step for the Shin Slice, placing heel, toe, and knee on the mat in sequence.
  4. Post the hand on the mat and flare the foot outward, aiming to face the opponent. Simultaneously, step on their calf and ankle with the other leg.
  5. Pivot on the knee to ensure the body is facing the opponent, which is crucial for proper alignment and control.
  6. Anticipate the opponent's frame on the shoulder. If they don't frame, a long step motion can be used to finish. If they do frame, use the momentum to drag their leg down.
  7. Initiate another Shin Slice over the opponent's shin, again with heel, toe, knee, landing in the Folding Pass position.
  8. Secure a belt grip, keep the head tight, and either staple the second leg or transition to knee-on-belly, depending on the opponent's reaction.

This sequence is particularly effective against De La Riva guard, as it allows for clearing the hook and stepping into position for the Shin Slice, leading to the Folding Pass or other dominant positions.
