About this video
Transitioning from the Long Step to the Folding Pass:
- Start in the Reverse De La Riva/Knee Cut position with active toes on the floor, knee pointing at the partner, a grip on the collar, and a grip on the pants. This can also be done when the opponent has a lasso with a sleeve grip.
- Initiate the Long Step by laying the elbow out and pointing the knee and elbow in the same direction, executing a penetration step to move the legs far away.
- If the opponent frames the inside of the bicep, instead of trying to close the distance, retract the left knee slightly using the toes on the mat to build up and gain mobility with the right leg.
- From the built-up position, flare the knee up and throw the hip heavy onto the opponent's hip while passing their leg underneath the body.
- Release the grip on the pants and cover the opponent's back to transition into the Folding Pass.
- Apply pressure head-to-head, use a staple, forearm staple, or if the opponent hip escapes and opens their legs, apply the leg-hip as well.
- If the opponent begins to chest escape away, use the back knee to swipe their legs up and look for knee-on-belly or switch sides to continue passing.
