About this video

Executing the Fulcrum Pass from the lasso guard involves several key steps to maintain control and pass effectively:

  1. Begin by stuffing the opponent's non-lasso leg inside to what is referred to as the 'headquarters' position, ensuring your knees are pinching inwards and you're rolling to the inner edges of your feet for strong lateral hip movement.
  2. Make a grip on the side of the opponent's ribs to anchor yourself and use your outside hand to find their collar.
  3. Force the opponent's lassoed foot deeper, allowing you to place your chin on top of their knee, making it difficult for them to retract.
  4. Kick your leg back and out wide to re-swallow the opponent's legs together, using your chest and shoulders to shut down their legs and applying your head tightly to their chest.
  5. As the opponent begins to let go or frame, remove your arm from the lasso and switch your hand to control their back, setting up the folding pass.
  6. Adjust your position to be less shallow by following up and eating up space, looking for the knee shelf and switching your head to continue the pass.
  7. Ensure you have a strong base by stuffing the leg, pinching your knees, and controlling the collar. Wait for the right timing to pass the opponent's foot deeper.
  8. Use your knuckles against the opponent's ribs and flare your shoulder down to create space, tucking their foot in further.
  9. Pull the opponent's knee tighter and place your chin on top to secure the position.
  10. Drive your shin at a 45-degree angle into their hamstring to prevent them from scooping their hips and moving around.
  11. Walk into the folding pass, connect your grips, and apply the forearm staple to finalize the pass.

Patience is key in this technique, as attempting it against a fresh opponent with mobile hips can lead to a strengthened guard. Control the timing and follow the opponent's movements to successfully execute the pass.
