About this video
Passing the Reverse De La Riva by transitioning into the Folding Pass involves disengaging the Reverse De La Riva hook with a Knee Cut technique. Begin in a position where the knee points towards the opponent's belt and stomach. Control the collar and fabric on the knee, or initially the lower back, to maintain a strong base and prevent being pushed away.
- Switch the backside hand to the opponent's shin or pants to connect to the Folding Pass. For this example, grab the shin.
- Relocate the left knee to place it on top of the opponent's knee, using the weight of the leg and hips to disengage the De La Riva Hook. Lift up slightly, drag the knee in, and cut it down, pressing the opponent's hook down.
- Push the opponent's knee towards their butt and guide their shin down, scraping your own shin and placing it over the top in a fluid chambering motion without segmenting the steps.
- Land hip-to-hip, maintaining a firm grip on the collar and cupping the lower back. As the opponent tries to move, scoop up their bicep, go ear-to-ear, staple their leg, and complete the pass.
- This technique is effective when combined with the threat of a long step, which can cause the opponent to maintain an active hook. If so, shove their leg across and cup the lower back to execute the pass.
