About this video
Executing a folding pass from a sweep single takedown involves several key steps:
- Start with a collar grip and circle away from your partner's leg to set up the sweep single.
- Take an outside penetration step and execute the sweep single.
- Drive up off your feet and pass the collar to your other hand, which is underneath, to secure both hands on the collar.
- Take a circular step backward with your right leg, flare your elbow out, and pull your opponent down to the mat.
- Widen your base and clamp your shoulder down heavily on your opponent's thigh.
- Place your knee on the mat, switch your head to an ear-to-ear position, and cuff your opponent's back to establish the folding pass position.
- From this position, you can either find the belt grip and pass or apply the knee on belly.
- Ensure your head is posted heavily on your opponent's chest to prevent their hip escape and maintain control.
- Finally, place your hip weight on your opponent to secure the folding pass.
This sequence allows for a smooth transition from a takedown to a dominant passing position and is frequently used at the highest levels of jiu-jitsu competition.
