About this video

The leg weave is an effective variation of the folding or smash pass, particularly suited for individuals with shorter legs. It allows for more direct application of hip weight onto the opponent's hip, which can be advantageous in controlling their movement.

  1. When the opponent tries to keep their knees apart to prevent the folding pass, transition to the leg weave by lifting your backside leg and splitting their legs apart.
  2. Immediately move to a perpendicular angle to your partner to prevent them from off-balancing you by posting on your knee or collar and scooping their hips.
  3. Secure a cross face and an underhook to control your partner's upper body and prevent them from entangling your leg.
  4. With the cross face and underhook in place, you can safely relieve your bottom leg from the entanglement.
  5. Connect your hands and create space to maneuver your inside leg, rolling your hip down and passing your shoelaces behind the opponent's ankle.
  6. Attempt to bring the opponent's foot towards their buttocks, which is a very uncomfortable position for them.
  7. Lift your inside knee and place it on the mat to transition into a tight side control position.

This technique emphasizes the importance of angles, upper body control, and leg positioning to secure side control from the leg weave position.
