About this video
Utilizing the folding pass against the Single Leg X (SLX) guard involves several key steps to maintain a strong base and effectively pass the guard.
- Begin by lifting the opponent's sleeve to prevent them from sweeping you by restricting the movement of their shoulder off the mat.
- Position the non-trapped leg tightly against the opponent's hips, slightly inside, using the knee like a kickstand under their lower back and butt.
- Drive weight into the trapped leg, turning it down and walking the foot back, creating pressure with both knees against the opponent.
- Remove the opponent's foot from your hip by controlling their collar and the bottom side of their hip to prevent them from pushing you away.
- Crawl your toes back and begin to sprawl and hip shift to the left, switching your head to the inside.
- Collect the opponent's arm to pass directly to mount or pin their elbow towards their belly, drive to a head-to-head position, and complete the guard pass.
- Throughout the process, focus on pinching your knees together on the opponent's hips, rolling your elbows tight, and melting your hips lower to secure the position.
- Stay patient and gradually increase pressure as the opponent resists, ensuring a smooth transition to pass the guard.
