About this video
Passing the Reverse De La Riva with a shuffling method is effective against opponents who use a high knee shield. The technique involves a folding pass by rotating the opponent's hips and shuffling to the opposite side.
- Start in the Reverse De La Riva position, facing an opponent with a high knee shield.
- Use the hand on the collar to cup underneath the opponent's knee, timing this action for when the opponent pushes away.
- Make a grip on the lower back and the collar to encourage the opponent to push, creating the necessary space for the pass.
- As the opponent pushes, bring your knee underneath theirs instead of over, and shuffle your feet laterally to flatten them out.
- Keep your knees pinched tight as you shuffle, and once the opponent's knee passes the line of your chest, switch your hand from their knee to their belt.
- Turn your feet as if performing a shin slice, maintaining a strong base and keeping your knees together.
- If the opponent continues to push, take small steps to shuffle over, maintaining control.
- After securing the belt grip and ensuring the opponent's knee is past your chest line, transition into the folding pass.
- Bring your hand tight to their knee, make a leg weave if necessary, and complete the pass, potentially moving into the Worm Guard sequence.
