About this video
Establishing a strong headquarters position is essential before applying the folding pass. Headquarters is when one leg is inside and one leg is outside the opponent's legs. To set up the folding pass:
- Guide the opponent's outside leg parallel to the mat using your hand without needing to grip, just palm the leg.
- Make a grip on the opponent's collar at the neck line with your other hand.
- Place the knee of your outside leg on the opponent's hamstring, creating counter pressure by pulling with the arm and pushing with the knee.
- Stay on the ball of your foot with the outside leg and rotate both knees and feet together, keeping your chest in the same position.
- Shift onto the heel of your inside leg and maintain the ball of your foot on the outside leg, as if on skis.
- Initiate a penetration step or shin slice over the opponent's leg, followed by a heavy sprawl into the frog leg position.
- If your knee occupies the space during the cut, you'll end up in a leg weave position, which is also effective.
- Prefer a heavy hip sag with your left hip, moving your arm to the back and your head inside to complete the pass.
- Alternatively, you can transition directly to the leg weave by aiming your knee at the space next to the opponent's hip.
- For the traditional folding pass, perform a significant hip sag with your left hip, place your head inside, push the opponent's arm in, and control their lower back to secure the pass.
