About this video

Passing the X-Guard involves a series of steps to maintain base and control:

  1. Maintain a strong base by bending both knees.
  2. Control the opponent's pants with one hand and their sleeve with the other hand, ensuring their shoulder is off the mat.
  3. Initiate by pushing your hips forward to create pressure.
  4. As the opponent reacts, pull your hips back while simultaneously pushing their knee down and away.
  5. Follow the opponent's movement to maintain pressure and control.
  6. Transition from controlling the sleeve to grabbing the belt.
  7. Change your base by scissoring your legs, which allows you to switch sides.
  8. Release the leg control and secure control over the opponent's hips, establishing side control.

This sequence effectively neutralizes the X-Guard and allows for a smooth transition to a dominant side control position.
