About this video
Passing the butterfly guard involves a series of controlled movements and grips:
- Choose one side to control and place your arm over the opponent's back while positioning your head on the opposite side.
- Secure two grips: one in the middle of the opponent's back and the other on the outside of their pants, at the knee level.
- Keep your head low to prevent the opponent from gaining leverage.
- On the same side where you control the back, slide your arm under the opponent's arm and maintain control.
- Insert your knee inside, close to the opponent's body, to prevent them from using their hooks effectively.
- Stretch your opposite leg out and sit on the mat while escaping your hips away from the opponent.
- As the opponent tries to follow, apply pressure with your shoulder to keep them down and prevent them from sitting up.
- Bring your knee back and glue it to the side of the opponent's hips to maintain control and prevent guard recomposition.
- Switch your hips and position your knee on the side of the opponent's hips to finalize the pass and establish side control.
