About this video

Passing the Reverse De La Riva guard involves a series of grips and movements to prevent the opponent from executing sweeps or attacks.

  1. Begin by controlling the opponent's collar to prevent them from establishing a grip on your head or collar, which they could use to initiate a sweep.
  2. With your right hand, grip their collar and pull it down while simultaneously pulling their foot down. This action should be accompanied by lowering your head slightly to prevent the opponent from regaining foot placement.
  3. Ensure that you do not open up your leg while pulling their foot down, as this could assist the opponent in executing a sweep.
  4. After pulling their foot and controlling the collar, shift your weight slightly forward. This will help you to cut the opponent's foot and move to the side, securing the pass.
  5. It's important to point your foot downwards as you pull it out to prevent the opponent from regaining control.
  6. As you pull and place your foot down, use your right hand to maintain control of the opponent's collar.
  7. Finally, apply forward pressure and continue to pull the opponent's foot until you can establish side control.
