About this video
Passing the deep half guard involves several key steps to prevent the opponent from controlling your lapel and to secure a dominant position.
- Prevent the opponent from grabbing your lapel by using your left hand to control their hand on top.
- With your right hand, push the opponent's knee down slightly.
- Place your right knee on the mat and switch your base, transferring your weight to the other side.
- Slide your left hand to control the opponent's arm, ensuring you control the elbow and not just the back to prevent them from taking your back.
- Stretch your left leg out and pass it over the opponent's face.
- Slide your hips down and pass your right arm to control the opponent's neck, connecting your hands together.
- Scissor your legs to help free your right foot if the opponent has it locked in half guard.
- Complete the pass by escaping your foot and establishing side control.
Throughout the pass, it's crucial to maintain control of the opponent's elbow to block their attempts to take your back and to use the scissoring motion of your legs to free your foot from their grip.
