About this video
Executing a hip drag pass from the butterfly guard involves several key steps:
- Start inside your opponent's butterfly guard and choose a side to initiate the pass.
- Place your knees close to your opponent's buttocks to glue their heel to their butt, ensuring tight control.
- Pass your arm over their knee on the chosen side and trap their foot, while controlling their belt or pants with the same hand.
- Keep your biceps in front of their shin to effectively trap the foot.
- With your other hand, control the outside of their pants just below the knee.
- When your opponent reacts by trying to push your shoulders, use this moment to switch sides.
- As you switch sides, pull their belt down to force them to expose their back.
- Secure the back by applying a seatbelt grip and prepare to attack from this dominant position.
It's important to maintain tight control throughout the pass and be ready to switch sides in response to your opponent's movements, ultimately leading to taking their back.
