About this video
Passing the De La Riva guard with a single leg underhook:
- Start in De La Riva guard. When the opponent underhooks your leg and controls their own leg, it disrupts your ability to cross or move your leg forward, blocking your guard pass.
- Use your left hand to control the inside of their leg. Before moving your hand under their leg, step your right leg slightly forward to increase your reach.
- Pass your leg under the opponent's leg and hand, then control their leg by placing it on top of your own leg.
- Lower your base and change your pressure by weaving your leg inside and closing your left leg to bring their leg towards you.
- After securing control of their leg, stabilize the position by controlling their leg and moving to their side.
- Repeat the process if needed: control their leg with your left hand inside, step your right leg forward for a better angle, and pass your leg under theirs.
- Once you control their leg on top of yours, close your left leg down and move slightly to start turning your body until you pass their guard.
- After passing, control their leg and establish side control.
