About this video
Passing the closed guard begins with choosing a side and controlling the opponent's same-side sleeve. With the right hand, grip the opponent's right sleeve, then slide the left hand under their arm to break their grip on your sleeve. Simultaneously pull their sleeve towards you and place your left arm to the side.
Next, bring their arm towards you, close your elbow, and secure a grip on their collar at the same line as their chin. Avoid gripping too high or too low on the collar.
Lean forward, bringing their arm to you, and raise your right knee. As you lean, maintain the pull on their arm. Then, lift your left leg to stand and establish posture.
Switch your grip to break their remaining grip on your sleeve. Push their knee down towards the mat and touch your knee to the mat. Control their head with your right hand.
Finally, pass your left arm under their knee, insert your right knee inside, step over, and transition to side mount. Remember to control the sleeve across, break the grip, control the collar, lean forward, raise the knee, switch grips, push the knee down, control the head, and pass the guard in a fluid sequence.
