About this video
Passing the deep half guard involves a series of steps to secure position and prevent the opponent from regaining guard. Begin by passing your right hand under your leg and the opponent's arm, placing it near their armpit. Lean forward and slide your left knee over their face, then control their knee with your left hand.
- Pass your right hand under your leg and the opponent's arm, ensuring it's close to their armpit.
- Lean forward and slide your left knee over the opponent's face.
- Control the opponent's knee with your left hand.
- Lift your left knee, placing your foot on the mat, and slide your hips down.
- Close your right elbow, pointing it down, and press your shoulder onto the opponent's stomach.
- Switch sides while keeping your right knee out to prevent the opponent from locking you in half guard again.
- Place your hand and forehead on the mat, keeping your right knee bent.
- Cut your right knee across the opponent's hips, maintaining the bent knee position.
- Slide to pass the guard, transitioning your right hand from palm face up to palm face down to apply an underhook.
- Cut your knee and secure the position on the side you've passed to.
Throughout the pass, maintain control and prevent the opponent from locking your ankle or regaining half guard by keeping your knee out and bent.
