About this video
Escaping the X-Guard involves a sequence of controlled movements to regain a stable position and pass the guard:
- Start by establishing a strong base to prevent being unbalanced by the opponent's X-Guard.
- Control the opponent's foot by placing your hand inside their foot, which is the first step to destabilize their X-Guard.
- Even if the opponent disrupts your base, maintain control of their foot to prevent them from sweeping or off-balancing you.
- As you control the foot, prepare to move your legs back into position.
- Pull the opponent's foot forward while simultaneously sitting on their chest to shift your weight and begin the guard pass.
- Transition your weight forward, placing your right hand on the ground for support.
- After establishing the post with your right hand, pass over the opponent's leg.
- Change your foot back to regain control and position yourself beside the opponent.
- If the opponent has a strong grip and you're unable to control the foot, use your hand to break their grip before attempting to control the foot again.
- Once you have regained control of the foot, put your feet back in position, push the opponent's foot forward, and sit on their chest.
- Shift your weight forward, place your left hand on their foot for control, and your right hand on the ground to post.
- Finally, apply more weight forward, switch your feet back, control the opponent's leg, jump over it, and establish side control.
