About this video
Passing the Reverse De La Riva guard involves a specific sequence of grips and movements to secure a dominant position. Begin by controlling the opponent's leg with the left hand, establishing the first grip on the lower part of their leg. The second grip involves wrapping the right arm around the opponent's leg and securing their neck.
- As the opponent places their foot on the inside and tries to pull back or turn, control their leg with the left hand and secure the neck with the right hand.
- Shift weight to the right side while pulling the opponent's leg slightly downwards to initiate the pass.
- Transition steps by stepping one, two, and placing the left foot on the same side as the neck grip.
- If the opponent turns, the neck grip provides an option to control them. If they turn towards you, simply move to the side to establish side control.
- Remember to keep the left foot over the opponent's foot until securing the side control, at which point the foot can be released.
- Depending on the opponent's reaction, either sit back or pull the left foot down to complete the pass to the side.
This technique ensures control over the opponent's movement and provides options to transition to side control, whether the opponent turns away or towards you.
