About this video

Passing the De La Riva guard to secure a keylock involves a series of precise grips and movements:

  1. Begin by cutting your knee to the side while maintaining grips on the opponent's leg and collar.
  2. Step over the opponent's leg and start to cut your right knee, simultaneously closing your right elbow to prevent their leg from repositioning.
  3. Pass your left hand under the opponent's arm to control their sleeve, bringing their arm towards you.
  4. Switch your grip from the collar to the inside of your wrist around their neck, ensuring your elbow remains tight on top of their shoulder.
  5. Lean forward to clear the opponent's knee, which may be positioned high, and bring your legs together to secure the mount position.
  6. Transition your right hand from the collar to the opponent's wrist, maintaining a tight elbow position.
  7. Pass your left hand under their elbow and control your own wrist to lock in the Americana submission.
  8. Ensure the opponent's wrist is brought close to their body to prevent them from straightening their arm and escaping the Americana.
  9. Lift their elbow to apply the Americana, making sure to close any space to secure the submission effectively.

Remember to force the opponent to look away by using your right arm as you mount, and control the wrist directly rather than grabbing the sleeve when setting up the Americana.
