About this video
Passing the De La Riva (DLR) guard involves a sequence of movements to control the opponent and secure a pass to mount. Begin by controlling the opponent's neck with a low grip to use the arm and shoulder to pull the foot out. Execute a short movement by jumping back with the left side to a diagonal position, moving quickly with a 1-2 step and returning forward.
- Control the neck and chest, placing hands together near the chest area.
- Lean forward, keeping the left foot up, and instead of stepping down, cut the left foot across to attempt a side pass.
- Keep both feet inside, lower them, and then place both feet outside before removing them.
- In the De La Riva guard, maintain neck control with a low grip and use the feet to create an angle for removing the De La Riva hook.
- Pull, step back, step forward, and then control the neck with both hands together.
- Keep the left foot raised and lean forward, placing the foot down.
- Instead of stepping down, cut the foot to the side to pass to the upper side.
- Remove the feet, ensuring both are inside, lower them, and then place one foot outside.
- Press both feet together and remove them to complete the pass.
