About this video
Transitioning from the Single Leg X to a back take involves several steps to effectively clear the opponent's hooks and gain the correct angle for a Berimbolo or leg drag entry.
- Begin by clearing the opponent's top hook off your hip to prevent them from maintaining control.
- Keep the cleared leg pinned down to stop the opponent from re-establishing the hook.
- Turn slightly away from the opponent and step in with your left foot, pinching your knees on their right leg to secure the position.
- Roll over your right shoulder while making a grip on the opponent's pants or belt with your left hand.
- Adjust your legs as necessary to end up underneath the opponent, ready to transition into a Berimbolo or leg drag position.
- From this position, you can either twist into a Berimbolo or use the leg drag to take the back.
- If starting from standing and the opponent has a strong Single Leg X, use the same process to clear the hook and roll to get underneath them.
- After clearing the hook, turn to your left and step back with your left foot while squatting down.
- Switch your grips: the hand that was on the opponent's knee goes to their hip, and your left hand grabs their pants.
- Roll over your right shoulder into the Berimbolo, from where you can proceed to a leg drag or directly to taking the back with a twister hook and securing the seat belt grip.
