About this video
Transitioning to the back from the leg clamp position:
- Attempt the twist hook first, but if the opponent extends their leg to prevent it, look for alternative options.
- Slide your hand down to the opponent's ankle, lift their leg slightly, and shoot your legs across.
- Keep your toes on the mat rather than sitting on your laces, then roll back forward, bringing your feet to the mat.
- If you end up too low to establish back control, start climbing up the opponent's body.
- Reach for the opponent's hip or belt with your left hand, and grab the back of their collar with your right hand.
- Release the figure-four lock and pull yourself up until your chest meets the opponent's shoulders.
- Secure the second hook and establish a seatbelt grip to complete the back take.
- Ensure you come up to a seated position using your feet on the mat to create momentum, rather than staying on your back.
- By coming up, the opponent will be more on their shoulder, making it easier to reach for their back and pull yourself up for the back take.
