About this video

Transitioning to the back from the leg clamp position:

  1. Attempt the twist hook first, but if the opponent extends their leg to prevent it, look for alternative options.
  2. Slide your hand down to the opponent's ankle, lift their leg slightly, and shoot your legs across.
  3. Keep your toes on the mat rather than sitting on your laces, then roll back forward, bringing your feet to the mat.
  4. If you end up too low to establish back control, start climbing up the opponent's body.
  5. Reach for the opponent's hip or belt with your left hand, and grab the back of their collar with your right hand.
  6. Release the figure-four lock and pull yourself up until your chest meets the opponent's shoulders.
  7. Secure the second hook and establish a seatbelt grip to complete the back take.
  8. Ensure you come up to a seated position using your feet on the mat to create momentum, rather than staying on your back.
  9. By coming up, the opponent will be more on their shoulder, making it easier to reach for their back and pull yourself up for the back take.
