About this video
Initiate a knockdown to set up the Berimbolo when the opponent steps over for a knee cut pass or forces any type of pass. This technique is effective whether the opponent initiates or you force the action.
- React immediately when the opponent steps over your leg to avoid giving them time to settle into a comfortable position.
- Use the foot behind the opponent's butt to kick them forward, aiming to bring their hands to the mat and shift their weight forward.
- As the opponent tries to return to their feet, rotate with them, re-establish the De La Riva hook, and place your foot on their hip.
- Drag the opponent to the mat by creating an angle and using the grip on their collar to pull them down as they fall back to their heels.
- If the opponent is not initiating the pass, you can force the reaction by hooking behind their leg and kicking forward to create the same knockdown opportunity.
- Whether the opponent pushes down on the leg or you hook it yourself, the motion remains the same: push down the leg, kick over, and knock them down as they come back.
