About this video

Transitioning to the Berimbolo from the De La Riva guard:

  1. Start in De La Riva guard with a collar and pants grip, and use your foot on their hip to widen their base.
  2. Bridge onto your shoulder, bringing your hook across to the far leg as much as possible to gain leverage.
  3. Maintain the pants grip to break the opponent's posture and prevent them from regaining it as you move to their back.
  4. Use your foot on the mat to pivot all the way to the back, switching your left hand to the opposite ankle.
  5. Bring your right foot in to square up, keeping control of the ankle and the back of the pants or belt.
  6. Pull the opponent's hips towards you to drop their weight, then kick out their legs while keeping your feet flexed for control.
  7. Secure the seatbelt grip, and insert your hooks starting with the side you are falling towards to prevent the opponent from escaping.
  8. Ensure the top hook is secured first as it's easier, then work to get the second hook in to establish back control.

Throughout the transition, maintain tight control and prevent the opponent from facing you or running away by managing grips and using your hooks effectively.
