About this video

Initiate a berimbolo with a knockdown from the De La Riva guard by utilizing the foot on the hip to bridge and off-balance the opponent:

  1. Start in the De La Riva guard with grips on the collar and ankle, and the foot on the hip.
  2. Widen the opponent's base slightly for better positioning.
  3. Bridge onto the left shoulder using the foot on the hip for elevation.
  4. Shoot the left leg across the opponent's thigh as far as possible.
  5. Bring the weight back down, hooking the right foot behind the opponent's leg.
  6. For the knockdown, either pull on the collar or slide the foot down to the opponent's ankle.
  7. Kick the left foot out to the left and the right foot to the right to bring the opponent to the mat.
  8. Once the opponent is down, bring your feet back to their hips to prepare for the berimbolo.
  9. Go inverted and proceed with berimbolo attacks.

Maintain grips throughout the process and adjust the technique based on leg length, using the shoulder bridge as necessary to facilitate leg positioning.
