About this video
Transitioning to the twister hook involves a No-Gi variation that focuses on arm control and hip control rather than traditional Gi grips. Starting from a seated position, the practitioner may initially hold the belt or collar but will release these grips to reach across for the opponent's far hip. This movement requires staying tight to the opponent's body.
- Begin by holding the belt or collar, then release and spin underneath while reaching for the opponent's far hip.
- Place feet on the mat and ensure legs are pinched over the opponent's knee and tight on their thigh to maintain control.
- Position your hip underneath the opponent's hip to facilitate the insertion of the twister hook.
- Swim legs to the inside to secure the twister hook.
- Once the hook is in place, kick the opponent down to take their back.
- For tighter control, reach around the opponent's back and bring your head close to their hip while bringing your feet to the mat.
- Pinch your knees together over the opponent's knee to secure a strong position.
- Swim for the twister hook, which requires minimal effort and flexibility due to the opponent's leg being close to the mat.
- Pull down to expose the opponent's back, secure the second hook, and establish the seatbelt grip.
This technique is effective in both Gi and No-Gi scenarios, providing a secure method to transition to the back and gain control over the opponent.
